Well, look what finally showed up at the Smith household.

My new Charles W. Smith Music T-Shirts are here, and I have to say, I’m pretty darn happy with how they turned out.

I’ve spent quite a bit of time lately working on the Charles W. Smith Music brand, and one of the fun parts has been designing the artwork that goes along with it. I wanted the shirt to look like something that belonged to a country musician, but I also wanted it to have a little bit of my own Texas story baked into it.

So, naturally, I designed the logos myself.

The front has the Charles W. Smith Music logo, while the back features the larger guitar-pick design with my image, an old Texas-style landscape and a few things that are important to me, including being a fourth-generation Texan and being rooted in land, legacy, stories and songs.

In other words, it’s more than just slapping my name on a shirt and calling it a day.

And then I had an idea for the sleeve.

If you’ve ever watched one of my live shows, you know that I like taking song requests. So I added a QR code to the sleeve that fans can scan during a live show to request a song.

Because apparently, we’ve reached the point where even the country singer’s shirt has technology built into it.

Back when I started playing music, if somebody wanted to request a song, they’d holler it from across the room.

Now you can scan my sleeve.

I’m not sure whether that’s progress or just another sign that I’m getting old.

Either way, it works.

I was also really impressed with the quality of the shirts when they arrived. The shirt itself feels great, and the printed logos came out better than I hoped. The colors, detail and overall quality of the printing really make the designs pop.

There’s always a little bit of nervousness when you design something on a computer and send it off to be printed. You spend all that time looking at a digital image, then you wonder what it’s actually going to look like when you can hold it in your hands.

Thankfully, this one passed the test.

I’m proud to wear it.

Now that’s a pretty handy shirt.
